Leave a Heritage of Faith for Your Grandkids

God has given grandparents a unique opportunity to speak into the lives of their grandchildren, giving them perspective on what has real significance.  In the first video of this post, Garnett Reid speaks about the powerful influence your stories can have on your grandchildren, pointing them to examples of God's faithfulness in your own life. Garnett has been professor of Old Testament at Welch College in Nashville, TN for over 30 years.  He has also authored several books including Deuteronomy 6 in 3D and Intentional Integrity.

Psalm 78:4 (ESV)

4We will not hide them from their children,

but tell to the coming generation

the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,

and the wonders that he has done.

Take a moment and reflect on how God has proved Himself faithful in your life. Recall stories from your past that point to His goodness and mercy.

When and how might you be able to share some of these stories with your grandkids?

Consider writing down some of those stories from your life that reveal God's faithfulness. Whether it is handwritten in a journal or typed and printed, those stories can stand as a testimony of what God has done in your family for generations to come.

As Garnett's previous video showed, your stories can have a powerful impact on the next generations. Perhaps even more important is the visible testimony of a life lived for God. In this video, Garnett speaks about the importance of being transparent with your faith, giving your grandchildren the opportunity to see how God is working in your life.

What would your grandchildren say is the most important thing in your life? Would they say it is your relationship with God?

A transparent faith can have incredible impact. Watch this real-life story featuring Sydney, a high school student. Sydney didn’t grow up going to church on a regular basis so she didn’t have a deep faith. When her grandmother got sick, Sydney saw the deep faith of her grandmother and started searching for herself. She stood up to her school curriculum to get Creation taught as an option and rallied other students too.

Sydney's grandmother was simply living her faith with transparency. The hope that Sydney's grandmother possessed in the face of sickness inspired Sydney to put her hope in Christ too, eventually impacting an entire high school.

Don't underestimate how your witness for Christ can impact generations to come. The Lord has given you an incredible opportunity and responsibility to minister to your children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren through a life lived in devotion to the Father.
