Before we delve more into changing the culture by developing ourselves and others as servant leaders, listen as Cheryl defines "leader first" vs. "servant first" and how servant leadership contributes to the success of any organization.

Cheryl said that she relies on the philosophy of Robert Greenleaf, Founder of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership. If you want to be a servant leader, ask this one question every day. Are the people I serve better off as a result of my leadership? 

How would you answer that question today? Are the people you serve better off as a result of your leadership? Why or why not?

How will you answer that question tomorrow? How will you invest in coaching, developing and growing your team to their potential? What information do you need to share so they can be effective? How will you share the power? How will you point them towards the things that will result in business performance?

Cheryl explained how servant leadership is anything but soft because a servant leader:
  • Calls out a very big destination
  • Invests resources to get the team ready to tackle that destination
  • Holds the team accountable to do their part in getting there
  • Provides an accountability model for goals and performance

Break down the above list into one of your "very big destinations" (goals). What resources are you investing? How are you getting your team ready? Are you holding them accountable? How? How are you modeling the goals and performance that you expect?
