Affecting Change in Your Church and Your Life

2011 Echo Conference

In this 50 minute training post from the 2011 Echo conference, Jon Acuff talks about closing the gap between where the gospel is and where it could go in the 21st century. Jon is the best-selling author of Quitter and Stuff Christians Like. He is part of the Dave Ramsey team, speaking to businesses, colleges and nonprofits.

As you watch this session, take notes and write down thoughts about how this session can impact your ministry.

Taking the key question from his book "Quitter," how would you answer Jon's query to those who feel like they are caught between a day job and a dream job? "I'm a ________ and I want to be a _______."

Jon listed three ways to close the gap between who we are and who we want to be and where our ministry is and where we want it to be.
  • Ignore the Voices
  • Face your Fears (Starting, Failure, Success)
  • Have Friends

Are you comparing your "beginning" to someone else's "middle?" What are your voices telling you?

Jon referenced 1 Corinthians 6:19. Every day you use your skill, ability and knowledge that God gave you to help someone build their home or rebuild their life, you are rebuilding the Temple. If you're going to risk and maybe fail, fail at something that matters. So that even in failure, lives are changed.
