1 - The Gap Between Women and Leadership

Session 1

Why in today's times do we see a lack of women in leadership? Women bring a unique set of skills and insight into the workplace that truly benefit the growth and trajectory of our overall marketplace. As much as we know this to be true, there still seems to be a gap between the amount of women working, and the amount of women in leadership roles. In the first session of this course, Bonnie Wurzbacher, former SVP at the Coca-Cola Company, shares five reason why this gap between working women and women leaders exists.

When we don’t leverage the abilities of women in the workplace, we're missing out on half of our talent that could potentially push our workplaces into greater heights.

The top five reasons women struggle to reach leadership roles are:
  • Stereotypes and preconceptions.
  • A lack of visible senior role models.
  • A lack of significant general management.
  • A personal dedication to home life.
  • A lack of mentoring.

No matter the reasons for it, when we miss out of placing women in leadership positions in the workplace, we miss out on opportunities for growth, perspective, and overall progress.
