Use Margin to Invest in Relationships

Invest Margin

Relationships need to be nurtured with time and attention. In this post, Steve Stroope, Lead Pastor of Lake Pointe Church, shares the wisdom of using margin in our lives to invest in creating deep, rooted relationships.

It is impossible to have deep, meaningful relationships with no margin in our lives. We need to use margin to cultivate relationships with others.

Reflect on your closest friendships and deepest relationships. How did those relationships develop? Quickly or slowly? What kind of time did you invest to reach the type of relationship you have now?

We live in an age of speed. Many of our devices and time management strategies are designed with the goal of giving us more time.

Are your efficiency strategies allowing you to invest your extra time in people? Or are you simply using that margin to accomplish more on your to-do list?

Mark 12:28-31 (ESV)

The Great Commandment

28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”29Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Jesus’s words remind us that the law can be summed up by love for the Lord, and love for others.

How does this Scripture land on you? Are you loving the Lord and loving others with the time you have?

Margin is meant for the cultivation of things that matter. As we begin to intentionally invest margin in the cultivation of relationships, we give the Holy Spirit room to work.
