Teaching Students to Be on Mission featuring Francis Chan

Students just want to fit in and be accepted. How do you teach your students to balance "popularity" while not caving to peer pressure? Zach tried many ways to gain acceptance by his peers—some were even illegal. But it wasn’t until he met a popular football player that his life started to change.

Are the students in your group taking the risk to reach out and invite others to church? Why or why not? What do they think they are risking?

Francis Chan is a nationally-recognized speaker and the best-selling author of "Crazy Love" and "Forgotten God." He is passionate about seeing teens display a much deeper love for Jesus and their neighbors. After listening to Zac's story, Francis shows us how he would challenge students to redirect the attention from themselves to the mission God has for all of us.

One of the things Francis says to students is that if we remain focused on ourselves—our status, our popularity—we’ll miss the mission that God has for us. Do you think most of the teens in your group think that they are “on mission” for God? How can you help them realize that what they do today, even in high school, can have a profound impact on their lives and the lives of those around them?

The love, joy and peace of a life lived for God is always attractive. And because of his ability in sports, Zach was a popular guy. He used his popularity to invite Zach—and probably others—to church, where their lives were changed.
Let's encourage our students to reach out and invite others to enjoy the freedom found in Christ.
